| Concord,
NC (May 28,
2002) The No.
49 BAM Racing
Dodge team
finished 36th in
the Coca Cola
Family 600 at
Loweıs Motor
Speedway.
The team was a
top-25 contender
throughout the
entire event;
unfortunately
the finish
hardly reflects
the solid effort
displayed by
Hornaday and Co.
The
BAM Racing Dodge
was remarkable
in happy hour on
Saturday, with
Hornaday turning
the 22nd fastest
time of the
morning.
This is a huge
compliment to
this team.
We changed
everything under
the sun in the
BAM
Racing Dodge
today. The
team worked
themselves into
the ground.
Iım so glad it
is starting to
pay off for
them.
Early
on, Hornaday
weaved his way
to the front of
the pack on the
1.5-mile
speedway. The
second caution
came out on lap
26, and pit
strategy came
into
play. Crew
Chief Teddy
Brown made the
decision for
Hornaday to stay
on the
track while the
leaders all
pitted and on
lap 28 of the
400-lap event;
Hornaday took
over the second
position.
On lap 230,
Hornaday radioed
that the BAM
Racing Dodge had
a grinding noise
off the corner
and had lost
some
power.
Hornaday told
them it might be
the
rear-end
gear.
Hornaday took
the No. 49 Dodge
to the garage
and the crew
went over the
car and could
not find any
thing with the
rear end gear or
transmission.
They sent
Hornaday back
out onto the
track on lap
275. It
was clear that
the BAM Racing
Dodge was not up
to speed.
On lap 368,
Hornaday took
the car to the
garage for a
broken valve
spring in the
motor.
After the race,
Hornaday was
clearly
disappointed.
"I just
want to thank
Tony
and Beth Ann for
letting me drive
this BAM Dodge.
We had a
learning
experience this
weekend and I
canıt tell you
how proud I am
of this BAM
Racing
team. We
struggled in
qualifying and
we were not even
close to where
we
needed to be in
the first
practice session
on Saturday
morning.
We had a
meeting and
Teddy and the
guys came back
with a setup
that proved to
be very
fast. We
knew after Happy
Hour we could
run with these
guys but we were
faced with more
than our share
of tough luck
tonight.
I believe we
would have
finished in the
top-25 if we had
not broken a
valve
spring.
Theyıve got a
great team over
here and I am
glad I was able
to come help
them out.
The BAM Racing
Dodge team next
head to Michigan
International
Speedway in
Brooklyn,
Michigan.
Shawna Robinson
will take back
over the driving
duties of the
No. 49 Dodge. |
